Camco's Spark Energy Services (Spark) has been named IJGlobal's ESG Newcomer of the Year 2025, marking a significant milestone for the platform and capping a strong quarter of growth and impact across its portfolio.
The recognition comes as Spark continues to expand access to clean energy financing for businesses across Africa. Through its development partners, the platform helped 22 SMEs reduce energy costs by an average of 28% during the quarter, exceeding platform targets. Spark has also achieved 64% of its annual energy savings target, putting it on track to meet its year-end goal.
The quarter also saw continued portfolio growth, with more than USD600k deployed, bringing total committed funding to USD9.4m. Four new projects were financed, including installations serving a manufacturing plant in Kenya, a resort and student accommodation facility in Uganda, and a follow-on investment at a private university in Uganda.
In addition, two sites reached commercial operations: Kabelmetal in Nigeria, with a 264kWp grid-tied solar installation, and Grantwood Close in South Africa, featuring a 70kWp solar system and 160kWh of battery storage. These additions bring Spark's operational portfolio to 3.3MWp of solar capacity, 1.6MWh of battery storage, and USD4.3m of energy efficiency projects.

The award reflects growing recognition of Spark's role in supporting Africa's energy transition through innovative financing solutions that deliver measurable commercial and environmental benefits.
