Today, we celebrate the women driving change across the distributed renewable energy (DRE) sector and highlight the work being advanced through the REPP 2 Technical Assistance Facility (REPP 2 TAF) to strengthen gender inclusion across renewable energy markets in Africa.

Through REPP 2 TAF, Camco helps companies to integrate gender considerations into renewable energy project design and operation of companies. This includes:

• Strengthening gender-responsive business practices.

• Supporting companies to embed gender across HR policies, recruitment process, workplace culture, and leadership helping build more inclusive organisations.

• Building capacity and awareness across the sector.

• Working with developers to understand how gender inclusion can improve operational performance, expand customer reach and strengthen long-term commercial sustainability.

These interventions translate into tangible impacts for women, communities and businesses.

𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀: 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗼 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 and 𝗙𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲
With REPP 2 TAF support, Prado Power and Farm Warehouse are piloting energy efficient productive-use equipment for women in Benue State, Nigeria, combining solar mini-grid power with agricultural services - improving operational efficiency and income generation opportunities.

𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻-𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝗥𝗘 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆: 𝗦𝗼𝘀𝗮𝗶 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀
Sosai Renewable Energies, a woman-founded company delivering solar home systems, mini-grids and productive-use technologies across northern Nigeria, is receiving REPP 2 TAF support to strengthen its institutional capacity, enhance financial management to position for growth.

𝗕𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘂𝗿𝘀
We have also closed the first round of applications for our Proof-of-Concept grant for women-led DRE enterprises, supporting early-stage founders to test innovative ideas, strengthen business models and unlock future investment.

Women-led enterprises in the DRE sector remain significantly underfunded despite their proven impact. Through targeted technical assistance from REPP 2 TAF and investment from the REPP 2 fund in alignment with 2X Gender Lense Investment (GLI) criteria, Camco is helping to close the female funding gap, supporting women to lead, innovate and build resilient energy businesses across Africa.
